As you know, overheating or hyperthermia is no less dangerous than hypothermia. And when a child is trapped in a car standing in the sun, the consequences can be tragic.
Every year, several dozen children die in the world, whose parents intentionally left them in the car, having gone away on business, forgot about their presence there, or the kids themselves got into an open car and were trapped.
Scientists all over the world have been thinking about a way to solve this problem, but they have not offered a really working option. But Lydia Denton, a 12-year-old schoolgirl from the USA, did it for them.
The girl was very impressed by the frightening statistics, and she, having never been interested in inventing before, decided to create a device that would help prevent this problem in the future.
Instead, with her 14-year-old brother and 10-year-old sister, she set about designing the system. Lydia attached a sensor to the car seat for toddlers, which was supposed to be triggered every time more than 2.2 kg was placed in the chair.
After that, a sensor monitoring the temperature in the cabin was launched, and when it reached 38.8 degrees, a special application began to sound the alarm, sending a message about the danger to the parent gadgets, as well as to the rescue service.
This invention won the CITCO Fueling Education Student Challenge, and Lydia was awarded a cash prize of $ 20,000.
The girl is glad that her idea can become an indispensable assistant for people, and most importantly – it is quite affordable. The approximate price of the device is about $ 50.
