Fasting day implies a sharp restriction of the daily diet in calories. At the same time, preference is given to one group of products, for example, only protein dishes or foods saturated with fiber. Since the number of calories in comparison with the usual diet decreases sharply, the body gets a kind of shake, and the accumulated fats begin to burn quickly, and excess water is effectively excreted from the body. However, it is impossible to fight excess weight in this way: the desired result can be achieved only if you constantly follow the diet recommended by your doctor.
Fasting day: where to start
The benefit of fasting days is that they allow you to maintain the achieved weight. In order not to harm the body, they need to be carried out systematically, and the rest of the time to eat in a balanced way.
Before arranging an «unloading» for the body, it is necessary to visit a nutritionist. He will assess the state of health and check the work of the cardiovascular, digestive and endocrine systems. A competent specialist will also prescribe biochemical blood and urine tests to find out how fats, proteins and carbohydrates are exchanged and how they are absorbed. With the help of a special device — a bioimpedance analyzer — the doctor will analyze the composition of the body and determine the percentage of water, fat and muscle. These indicators determine which foods should be restricted in the first place, and which, on the contrary, should be introduced into the diet. The nutritionist will also evaluate the so−called basic metabolism – the amount of energy required by the body for the main processes of vital activity. Only based on the results of such a comprehensive study, it is possible to prescribe an adequate diet and conclude that fasting days are necessary, because they are completely contraindicated for some people.
Fasting days should not be carried out during pregnancy and lactation, when a woman’s diet should be as balanced as possible. Without careful consultation with a doctor, this method is not suitable for diabetic patients. During periods of exacerbation of chronic gastrointestinal diseases, an incorrectly selected fasting day can even lead to hospitalization.
