For the American Joseph Cartellon, fate has prepared a surprise that can hardly be called pleasant. He learned that his beloved and only daughter, Rebecca, was not his own. Interestingly, the truth was discovered by accident, because Joseph did not even suspect that he was raising someone else’s child. Here’s how it all came about.
Joseph’s 24-year-old daughter, Rebecca, has always been interested in her family history. Therefore, last Christmas she gave her father and mother an unusual gift – the Ancestry.com kit, thanks to which you can do a DNA test and find your relatives. This kit costs about $120 and allows you to run DNA on saliva samples.
And so, Joseph became interested in the gift of his daughter. Together with Rebecca, they sent their samples for analysis and waited for the results. When they arrived, Joseph could not believe his eyes – it turned out that their DNA did not match with Rebecca! This meant that the girl’s father was not him, but another man!
Of course, Joseph was not pleased to learn that all these years he had raised someone else’s child. However, his relationship with Rebecca did not deteriorate, but still the man decided to get to the bottom of the truth.
As it turned out, it all happened because of an unfortunate medical error. The fact is that Rebecca was conceived not in a natural way, but with the help of IVF. However, at the clinic where the procedure was performed, doctors confused Joseph’s biological material with that of another man, probably a donor, who is Rebecca’s father.
Now Rebecca is confused – she wants to maintain a good relationship with her «adoptive» dad, but at the same time she wants to find her real father. She already has 5 likely candidates that were discovered . Interestingly, among them is a doctor who worked in a clinic where they did IVF.
But Joseph is going to sue the reproductive center and seek moral compensation. As for the leadership of the ill-fated clinic, they prefer to remain silent and do not give comments to the press.
