That spring day in the American town of Sprague will be remembered for a long time because of the monstrous crime that broke through thanks to a desperate and brave girl. She went down in history as a «Screaming Head», «A head behind a fence», «A screaming girl» — that’s how Delicia Wright was then seen and remembered by neighbors, plus that’s how she got on the CCTV footage.
Delicia and Brandon Wright, 8 and 10 years old, were playing in the city park that morning with their younger brother Owen, who was just 22 months old. Suddenly a stranger approached them, who started a conversation about nothing, and then abruptly grabbed the baby and rushed to run. And if the elder Brandon was confused at first, then Delicia immediately screamed at the top of her voice and rushed after the kidnapper. She ran and screamed for the whole neighborhood, for several blocks, not stopping for a minute.
Surveillance cameras show how far behind Delicii, Brandon also runs after his brother’s abductor. By that time, the «screaming head» was noticed by the owner of the antique store, Dorothy Giddins, who did not understand anything, but called the police just in case. A strange procession, a frightened adult looking around with a child in his arms and screaming children chasing him, attracted the attention of two high school students. Seeing such help, the kidnapper abandoned Owen and fled.
And although no one was formally injured, the incident became resonant for the town. The teenagers recognized the kidnapper as a high school student from their school, a dim-witted bully who for some reason put on a false mustache and a wig. A few days later, he was found and arrested, and as a minor he was sentenced to only 70 months in prison for attempted child abduction. And Delicia is now the heroine of the Sprague — journalists vied with each other to make stories with her about love and touching care between brothers and sisters.
