The American Michalek family has always perceived the bullmastiff Brutus as their adopted son, not a dog, but part of their family. Both as a puppy and as an adult dog, he enjoyed unprecedented privileges, which made him somewhat spoiled. And when it came time to replenish the family, there was an anxious pause — how would the big and restless Brutus react to this?
In a matter of a year, Brutus had grown from a clumsy puppy into a hefty mobile monster, which had the entire considerable territory of the ranch at its service. Not that he was pampered, rather, little punished and neglected severity. Brutus is not aggressive, but with his strength and passion, any game becomes a test. And one more important factor: there is only one truly holy thing in the world for this dog, his favorite fluffy ball. He merrily destroys other toys in five minutes at most.
For all that, Brutus remained the youngest member of the family, which he used. The fact that soon everything will be different, the dog learned much earlier than people. Bonnie Michalek began to notice that Brutus was worried at night, did not want to lie in his bed, but came to her room. Not out of fear or out of a sense of loneliness, that’s understandable, but why? Soon everything became clear, the big dog instinctively protected the expectant mother, who was anxiously wondering — and what should she do now with two «children»? The dog is used to receiving a lot of affection, won’t he be jealous of the child?
It turned out exactly the opposite — Brutus met the hostess from the maternity hospital, met little Kayden and unconditionally recognized himself as the eldest. That is, instead of begging for affection and care, he began to give them himself. And first of all, he brought the baby a secret fluffy ball, the best thing in the world. If a child cries, a huge bullmastiff will be right there with his toy. It’s not much use, but the dog is happy that he honestly fulfills his family duty.
Brutus has changed a lot with the advent of a child in the family, for example, he learned not to spoil toys on the go. Because they can be useful to the «younger brother» and, therefore, you need to be patient and reasonable. Now the family is waiting for little Kayden to grow up to go on his first hike — a couple of years ago it was an unforgettable adventure for another crumb of Brutus and the Michalek family hopes that their son will also enjoy nature like a dog.
