Robbie Ekuer is only nine years old, he suffers from autism and lives with his aunt. The boy became an orphan not so long ago and this story is just about this tragic event and its instructive consequences. The boy does not like the rain, but he is looking forward to it, because after the rampant bad weather, a real rainbow often appears in the sky. A very, vital symbol for him.
Life with autism is not sugar in itself, and Robbie also recently lost his mother. The serious disease cystic fibrosis left him no chance. On the day the boy found out about the loss, a double rainbow appeared in the sky above their street. And the father came up with such a thing: he took a picture of a rainbow as a souvenir and told his son that in fact it was a magical rainbow bridge, along which mom had gone far, far away. He didn’t lie that she would come back one day, just handed Robbie a picture. And a month later, father was gone.
Overdose of painkillers and antidepressants. The boy understood everything, but took it in his own way – for him, his parents did not die, but «went over the rainbow bridge.» His aunt, who now takes care of him, supported the idea. It’s easier that way. But it doesn’t rain often in their region, and the rainbow doesn’t always happen, and the boy misses his mom and dad every day. And then aunt threw a cry with a request to send them photos of rainbows. The most ordinary, real rainbows, not photoshopped pictures from the Internet.
In a short time, Robbie received more than 5,000 photos! Now he has something to talk about with his aunt when he remembers his departed parents. The pictures show different places in the world from where rainbow bridges lead — people leave their loved ones on them. In this way, it is easier to perceive the sad reality if you are a child. And adults, too.
