The controversial summer of 2017 makes people become inventive – the heat in Western Europe forces moms to look for non—standard solutions for their children. One of these was the fascination with homemade pacifiers, which mothers make from their own breast milk. The food familiar to the baby is decanted and frozen in a mold, after which it is given to the child — on, suck and gnaw, develop erupting teeth. But such an innovation has already found a lot of critics.
Arguments for breast milk nipples: they are safe and comfortable. The product is a priori useful, plus it’s cool, it’s the most in the heat, and you don’t have to watch the baby — the yummy is big enough so that the child doesn’t choke and can trash it for his pleasure. Children at this age in any case pull everything into their mouths, so let it be a useful delicacy than some kind of plastic toy. Again, freezing milk saves mom from the hassle of real breastfeeding and gives her time to rest, but the heat tires everyone.
One mother told me that she uses two molds of different colors — breast milk cools in pink, soy milk in green, for the eldest allergic daughter. Another mother described the positive effect of a cold treat that softens the pain and swelling on the gums of her child, who is actively teething. Almost everyone who has mastered the innovation says: children like these milk «lollies» and they eat with an appetite.
Criticism of the innovation, if we discard unsubstantiated statements about heresy and other nonsense, boils down to the categorical prohibition of doctors to give babies ice. Contact of a very cold object with delicate skin or mucous membrane provokes «temperature injuries», a kind of burns, which does not lead to anything good. A seasoned adult can escape from the heat by diving into an icy stream, but young children need to be cooled carefully! The negative effects of teething are neutralized by a silicone chewing ring, and as for milk as food, it should be served at a natural temperature and consistency, as nature intended.
