It is difficult to live in the world when you are a primary school student with your soul and mind, and you are much larger than all adults. In the Chinese city of Leshan, Sichuan Province, the majority of the population is traditionally undersized, so 11-year-old Ren Keyi always towers above the crowd. He constantly receives portions of ridicule and is not too good at fighting back yet, but he hopes that when his achievement is officially recognized, everything will change.
The first and perhaps the most important thing is that the boy Ren does not have congenital gigantism, acromegaly and similar diseases. His body develops harmoniously, just the size is «too big». The reason for this is hereditary genes, the height of Ren’s father is over 180 cm, his mother is under 190, his grandfather was close to two meters. If the average Chinese boy of 11 years has 1.45 cm in height, then Ren Keyi has 206 cm. Even in kindergarten, right after the nursery group, the boy was already different in size and continues to grow.
However, mentally and morally, he is an 11—year-old kid, far from a genius and not a leader. Ren remembers that in the first grades it was fun when the teacher put something higher, away from the children, and he easily got it. And in general, thanks to his height, he was always «head and shoulders above» everyone. Now, in high school, the unprecedented growth is nothing but problems. People around do not understand what such a big guy is doing among children and express it not in the most flattering form. Children are also not comfortable and it does not matter that Ren is not a conflicted person, there is always an abundance of ridicule in his address. This led to problems in education, when the boy was genuinely disappointed in himself and even fell into hysterics.
A separate chair and a desk, for his height. Constant problems with the fact that all the things around are designed for children and short Chinese. Every now and then I have to explain to strangers that he is really a school student, and not an adult fool who escaped from a mental hospital. The world does not accept those who stand out strongly, says Ren Keyi. But he has a joy and a hope — the boy is going to apply to the Guinness Book of Records. It’s just not very clear in which category, for example, is the tallest 11-year-old in the world? Or how?
